Depressed? You can come out of it!

I received the following letter from a client of mine a few days ago - I am so grateful for the opportunity to help others:

Dear Medini,
I first contacted you in November when i was going through some very difficult times in my life, I was struggling emotionally with changes in my life and felt i had no control over my life at that time and could not even see my life improving in the future, i felt stuck with hurt and mental anguish. I could not see the point of being alive or the reason for my existence.
Having the treatment bought me peace that day (it was my birthday) and probably the following days, but it was especially measurable that day. I have had another treatment with you since plus a chat over the phone, which has helped me so much that i cannot describe in words. I have had dreams and i have somehow become aware to know where to look for the tools to help myself.
It has lead me into looking from one place to another for answers, i have come across various ways of helping myself to heal, each being helpful, changing my life and proceeding to the next venture. My relationships with others seem to have just improved, it is so much more stress free and accepting. I have managed to let go of the relations i was holding onto and i no longer think about the future and i try to live in the presence and enjoy the moment.
My life has transformed and is still transforming for the better, i am still searching for the truth, but i have accepted i cannot fix everything, i do not give myself such a hard time. I can see the changes in my life and understand each step i have gone through which has led me to a better and improved me.  I am feeling more and more content with each step. People may never understand what difference you made to me or how, but i know my life improved with your help.
Thank you for the time you invested in me, thank you too for your healing hands and compassion.

Release toxins and reduce stress levels through this simple breathing technique

If you suddenly felt angry or upset with someone or something, this is a very effective breathing technique that can be done any time, any place, any where, standing, sitting or walking to release any toxins and bring a sense of peace to you.

Visualise clear energy entering the left nostril and into your whole body, and then visualise a clouded energy exiting your right nostril (if you have toxins in your body the energy that comes out will appear either black or grey) .  Keep doing this till you see or feel a clear energy leaving your right nostril.

When doing this exercise you don't need to physically close either of the nostrils - just see or feel the energy entering and exiting.

See how you feel at the end of it.

Please note that this is not an exercise to bring balance as is the case with alternate nostril breathing (see my article on how to do alternate nostril breathing) - it is purely a way of releasing toxins in the body.

After the above exercise, if you feel you need to, bring balance into your body by doing alternate nostril breathing.  You can also do this breathing technique without physically closing either of the nostrils.

As a basic principle, left nostril breathing is controlled by the right hemisphere of the brain and activates the parasympathetic nervous system (and related to the unconscious mind) and the right nostril is controlled by the left hemisphere of the brain and activates the sympathetic nervous system (and related to the conscious mind).  More information on this will be posted in due course.

New Year Resolutions

By now you are most likely to be preparing your long list of new year resolutions.  It is one thing to have them and another to actually to implement and then stick to them ...  Months down the line the story always comes up as to why it could not happen :(.  As far as I can see, there are no excuses...only responsibilities.  We are always responsible for creating our own reality.

What are these excuses we come up with?  negative thought patterns which lead to negative behaviour!!

The single most important resolution that should appear in everyone's book is, therefore, POSITIVE THOUGHT PATTERNS which generate POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR!!!  Easier said than done, huh!

Lets begin with a few tips for everyday living that normally slip our mind...

- Wake up each day with a smile (get a couple of toothpicks to help you, if necessary).  Release those endorphines.

- Always see the positive side.  Every situation is meant to teach you something positive to help you grow.  Ask the situation:  What are you trying to teach me?  The same rules apply to people - see the good in others.  Everyone does the best they can with the information they have available to them at that time.

- Surround yourself with positive people.  Hmmm! Ok, sometimes it could be a bit difficult to do!  Keep drilling those positive thoughts into the " negatives' mind " and their brains will eventually be reprogrammed.

- Road rage - obviously the person who cut you is in a hurry... Good luck to them! - they obviously got out of the wrong side of the bed, you got out of the right side and well done to you!  By the way this happens a lot to me!

- If someone has helped you in any small way, thank them.  Smile at those around you whenever you can (and if it feels appropriate).

- Practice listening more..

Going to work:
- Walk through the park, when ever possible.
- Focus on your breathing for say 5 minutes while you walk (if it is too taxing try 2 minutes and work your way up) - obviously not whilst crossing a busy road.
- Buy a rose for yourself on your way to work (as an act of love for yourself - if you don't love yourself who will?).  Men.. think of something you would like your partner to buy for you and buy that (within reason).
- Always look forward to your work - it brings you money doesn't it?  Ok you are not entirely happy - boss is crap, you probably lost all your hair because of it etc.  Be grateful for the fact that you have a job and think of all those who have not and those who are homeless.  Appreciate what you have and then start looking for something that will fulfil your inner needs.
- Just smile at your workload, and know that you will do the best you can, and the results (whatever they may be) will be positive.  Visualise yourself as happy at the end of a hard day's work.

Talking to yourself positively:
- I can and I choose to ...
- I have what it takes ...
- How can I change the current situation, so as to achieve the results I want ...
- What strengths do I have to get me out of this situation...
- Pray: "Please show me how to ...", then open up your senses.
There's many more, but I will stop here.

At the end of each day:
- Think of 5 things that you felt good about during the day and thank the Universe, God or whoever you feel comfortable talking to in your mind.
- Smile - you have had a good day - you have learnt something new!

The above provides a few simple techniques to steer you in a positive direction.  At times we are bound to come across negative situations - are we going to let them beat us or are we going to stand up and fight?

Have a prosperous New Year

Developing mental clarity with yoga

As with all exercises, be gentle - only go as far as you can.  If you feel any pain stop immediately and seek medical advice.  Remember that this article is about mental focus and balance, and not about going to extremes with any posture.

We will be concentrating on standing postures, focusing on forward bends, back bends, balance and twists (can be done anywhere without a mat).  This is ideal to do before beginning work and the routine can be done at least 3 times.

Stand straight with your feet together, and hands in prayer position in front of your heart (ideally eyes should be closed).  Breathe normally, empty your thoughts and bring your mind to your body (the positioning of your feet - feel yourself grounded).  Focus on your legs, abdomen, chest, shoulders, arms, hands, neck, mouth, eyes, ears and finally your head).  As you move through the parts of your body, mentally massage and relax them.

Open your eyes, take a couple of deep breaths and come into Tadasana - bring your hands by your side and palms facing your thighs.  Keep your back straight and breathe normally and smoothly for 20 secs.

Raise your hands above your head, palms facing eachother.  Distributing your weight evenly across both feet, and your arms extended above your head come into a gentle back bend.  Go as far as you can - without putting too much tension on your lower back, and hold for 10 to 15 seconds whilst focusing on your breathing.

Gently straighten your back (hold for a few seconds) and come into a forward bend with the hands resting beside your feet (Uttanasana).  Hold for upto a minute breathing normally.  Here feel yourself grounded.  Feel the energy from earth being drawn up the soles of your feet into your body, energising you, taking away any stale energy through your palms into earth to be transformed.

Take a deep breath and come into Utkatasana.  Bending your knees slightly and then raising your hands.  Here keep your eyes closed, breathing normally.  Create and maintain a mental image of the posture you are in for 30 seconds.  If your mind wanders, gently bring your mind back to the posture.

Open your eyes, take a deep inhale, straighten yourself, then bring your hands by your side.  Bring your right foot to rest on the side of the lower part of your left leg and take your hands above your head in prayer position.  Maintain the posture with normal breathing for 15 to 30 seconds.  Relax and repeat on the other side.

Relax your hands by your side, bring your left foot to rest on the floor.  Take 3 deep breaths, and as you inhale feel in your mind, your lungs expanding completely.  As you exhale, feel your lungs completely emptying themselves.

Come back to normal breathing.  We will now come into the eagle pose (Garudasana).  Take a deep inhale, wrap your right leg over and around your left leg.  If you find it difficult to balance rest the toes of your right foot on the floor as shown in the picture.  Next bend the right hand, wrap under the bent left hand and hold the palms in prayer position in front of your face (do the best you can).  Hold for upto 30 seconds with focused normal breathing.  Release your hands and bring your feet to rest on the floor.  Repeat on the other side.

Bring your hands to rest on either side and both feet on the floor.  With your eyes closed bring focus to your body, ground yourself, mentally relax and massage your muscles.

End with hands in prayer position in front of your chest - give thanks for the time that you were given to bring mental clarity to yourself.

Open your eyes gently and get on with the rest of the day.

A Transformational Energy Therapy Testimonial

Everything outlined in the testimonial below took place within 2 months – please bear in mind that a healing process is very individual.  I do hope that the story below gives hope to those who feel that they just can't go on.

Medini is a brilliant holistic therapist.  I have had the intuitive energy healing treatments from her.  At first she made me comfortable by explaining to me how the treatments work and then started the treatment.  It helped release any negative thoughts and feelings I had.  The treatments have been great as I am feeling much more positive and balanced.  I would definitely recommend her therapeutic healing abilities.

Immediately after my first session, I felt the urge to rest a lot.  Soon after, the next day, I felt the need to move forward, and my mental focus began to improve – mentally I became a lot clearer.  I also felt a sudden boost of energy, started walking and working out a lot where as previously I felt lethargic with a lack of interest towards exercise.

After my second session, I cried a lot – which released a lot of hidden emotions and I became more confident about moving forward.  Shortly after, I felt an improvement in my relationships with family.  In my mind I began to have a plan for what I wanted to do and move forward, and the people I came across offered me advice which never crossed my mind previously.  My intuitive senses have also, now, completely opened up.

Currently she is guiding me to use my own inner ability that I had blocked in the past.  Prior to making a decision on something I always activate my 3rd eye (as Medini has taught me to do so), and I feel that this is definitely helping me as I am seeing results.

Since my 3rd treatment I have stopped using cannabis as this was something I was using for medicinal purpose to calm myself but it was giving me nothing back but more anxiety.  I haven't felt the need nor have I used it at all after my treatment.  I feel a lot better and don't need it anymore - I can now control 'it' than let 'it' control me...my life is defiantly turning around to a more positive level  as my attitude has changed for the better.  I do feel that I need a little bit more clearing. Medini is a great therapist as she hasn't once judged me and has always had the time for me when I needed to talk.  I am now working for myself as I've just started my own business and have a lot of plans ahead, whereas before I always felt stuck and couldn't decide what to do. I have also noticed that my head is a lot clearer.  Being able to be more positive radiates good energy which then brings me closer to the things I want to achieve... Thank you Medini! S.M 7/11/11.

Energy Therapy - How it works

When I carry out energy therapy on clients I work intuitively on high frequency energy planes.  I would work with energy imbalances, and for the individual anything may surface - every session is unique to the individual.

Sometimes emotional issues manifest as physical problems.  In this case, after the session (s) the physical problems may gradually diminish and may eventually cease to exist in the individual.  Energy therapy can also be worked on in the areas of stress, illness and injury.  Again every session(s) is / are unique to the individual.

During the session he / she may feel an immediate sense of release for example lightness and even the reduction of pain, or even pain which gradually disperses, or even nothing at all.  After the session(s), in the case of emotional issues, the individual is likely to go through a release process for a couple days - again this is very individual and nothing is set in stone.  After that it can take days, weeks or even months etc for any effects to be seen in the physical environment.  The individual may become more aware, but on the other hand he / she may not even notice the changes that take place after the therapy.  Below are a few comments I have received from clients:

-  you may start to think in a positive way,
-  you may begin to feel happy in your own skin / be more confident,
-  you may attract different / more positive types of people into your social and professional circle,
-  you may begin to have more energy,
-  you may find yourself being strongly guided by your own intuition,
-  you may find yourself being gently pushed forward and not being pulled back
etc...

Bhujangasana (cobra pose) for your back, digestive system etc...

Bhujangasana (cobra pose)

In addition to strengthening of the upper and lower back, the cobra pose offers other benefits which include the massaging of the abdominal organs / adrenal glands, promote elimination (including the liver and kidneys), and toning of the abdominal muscles, thyroid and parathyroid glands.  It opens up your chest and regular practice of this posture contributes to the strengthing of the upper body (the shoulders and arms).  Give 5 minutes for this exercise.

This posture is contraindicated in pregrancy and if in doubt about anything else always consult your doctor.

Begin by laying flat on your stomach and resting your head to one side, legs together and the soles of the feet facing up.  Empty your thoughts, feel yourself weightless and take 3 deep breaths.

Bring your palms to rest on the floor directly below your shoulders and your forehead on the floor, with the head & neck relaxed.  Take a deep inhale, roll your shoulders open and slowly raise your upper body, then your neck and then your head by pushing up with your fingers.  Keep your elbows bent and close to your body.  At this stage the weight should be on the arms and shoulders.  Hold the position for 10 to 15 seconds.

Now take another deep inhale and arch your back.  Be gentle when tilting your head and neck back to avoid any tension.  Now tighten your bottocks.  Hold the position for 15 seconds breathing normally.  In the final position the pubic bone is in contact with the floor and the navel is raised only a couple of cms from the floor.  The elbows should be slightly bent.

To come out of the position, release and straighten your back.  Then bring your navel, chest, shoulders, neck and head down to the floor, and finally the forehead. Give 10 seconds in this position.  Then push yourself up gently and come into a child pose (Balasana) with your arms extended over the head.  Give yourself 10 seconds in this posture.

Next pull yourself forward to straighten yourself flat onto your stomach, and repeat the process upto 5 times.  At all times make sure the inhalation is deep and the exhalation is complete keeping the movements to a smooth flow.

Balasana
Balasana (or child's pose) is a prone position which brings your spine into a resting place after the back bend.

In this posture you will be kneeling and lower legs tucked (with your knees in line with your hips, and the feet together).  The chest will come to rest between the thighs, and forehead on the floor.
